Teachers! Arrange an in-classroom presentation by legal professionals who have volunteered to work with students in your area.

If you would like a member of the legal community to visit your classroom, email Kandis Showalter with your name, school, address, grade level and contact information. If you have a specific law related topic you wish addressed and know the date and time you would like to have a presentation, include that information with your contact information. The LCLCE has on file a large list of topics that you can choose from.
Outstanding Civics Teacher Award Recipient Announced
Outstanding Teacher 2010

The 2010 recipient of the LCLCE/LSBA President's Award for Outstanding Civics Teacher is Victoria McCardell. McCardell is a teacher at Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans. She was presented with this prestigious award at the LSBA Midyear Meeting. She also received funds to purchase law related materials for the classroom. "We the People" Congressional Hearing State Competition

WTP 10 State Champion

This year's We the People State Champion is the team from John Ehret High School led by George Allan. First row, far left is LCLCE President Judge  Wendell Manning. First row center is Louisiana House Representative Pat Smith. Back row, far left is George Allan. This team will represent Louisiana at the We the People National Competition in Washington D.C. in April.

Preceding the State Competition were the District Competitions which
were held in the Shreveport, New Orleans, Metairie and Lafayette areas on January 9, 16 and 23.

Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council Now Accepting Applications
High school students who have an interest in representing the voices of other young people around the state may apply. State lawmakers created the Legislative Youth Advisory Council in state law during the 2007 Regular Session. It's purpose is to facilitate the communication between youth and the legislature and to give students a unique opportunity to be involved in the workings of state government. The deadline for applications is April 15, 2010. Online application is available here.
ABA National Online Youth Summit
This is the American Bar Association's national, web-based program that engages high-school students and teachers each January through May in a virtual community discussion on important issues of interest to youth. Forty schools in twenty-one states are already registred to participate. For more information about this program, click here.
